Hoodi vs Penumbra vs Lofti: Which Sun Shading System Fits Your Space?

Three sun shading systems, three different jobs. Here's how to tell which one fits your space.

Hoodi — for windows and doorways

Hoodi is a canopy that sits directly over a window or door opening, with optional side fins for angled sun. It's the right choice when the problem is a specific opening — a west-facing window that bakes in the afternoon, or a front door with no cover from summer rain. Configurable with a top panel alone, or top plus one or two side fins depending on which direction the sun comes from.

Penumbra — for filtered light along a wall

Penumbra is a set of vertical fins, mounted to run along a wall or facade rather than over a single opening. It's the better fit when you need to cut glare or heat gain across a whole elevation — a run of windows, a glass wall, or a facade that gets hit by low afternoon sun — without blocking the view or light entirely.

Lofti — for custom-sized openings

Lofti is modular, built up from individual panels sized to your exact opening. Use it when neither Hoodi nor Penumbra fits the space — an unusually large or oddly proportioned window, a pergola infill, or anywhere you need a shading system built to a specific dimension rather than a standard size.

Quick way to decide

  • Single window or door → Hoodi
  • Long wall or multiple windows → Penumbra
  • Non-standard or oversized opening → Lofti

All three are powder-coated aluminium, engineered for the South African sun, and made to order in Cape Town — 15–20 working days. Not sure which suits your space? Send us a photo and we'll recommend one.
